The Codes and Building Safety department provides three primary functions to the residents, employees and visitors of Smyrna.

Permits Fees

Smyrna's permit fees will have a small increase beginning July 01, 2017.

  • Building permit fees:  $.35/sf.
  • Gas and plumbing permit fees:
    $30 + $7.50/fixture.
  • Electrical fees will remain
    largely unchanged

Building & Electric Permits (PDF)

Beginning August 01, 2017, all Impact Fees and Tap Fees need to be paid at the time a permit is issued (instead of before the Certificate of Occupancy is issued). 

While the Town of Smyrna does not prohibit construction debris being burned, (as long as it is in compliance with the Smyrna Fire Department requirements), please be considerate to surrounding residents of when, where and the weather (wind) when doing open burning.

The Town of Smyrna Building & Codes Department has adopted the following Building Codes:

  • 2012 International Building Code
  • 2012 International Residential Code (except chapters 11, and 34 through 43)
  • 2012 International Plumbing Code
  • 2012 International Mechanical Code
  • 2012 International Fuel Gas Code
  • 2012 International Property Maintenance Code
  • 2012 International Fire Code
  • 2009 International Energy Conservation Code
  • 2012 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code
  • 2012 International Existing Building Code
  • 2008 National Electric Code
